Gator News #5 - 6/27/21

Ken Caryl Invite Results

Congratulations to all the swimmers who participated in the Ken Caryl Invite this past weekend. The upper division endured the stormy weather on Friday evening, holding down the team tents to keep them from flying away in the storm! The Gators won third place over-all. We had many amazing time improvements, like Kelly Kennedy who dropped 20 seconds in her 400 free. Elise Ballantyne and Sebastian Lundquist qualified for the State meet for the first time this season. Congratulations to Reagan Horn and Jackie Mudd, who won the high point award for their age-groups. Well done!

Coach Drew

Congratulations to Coach Drew Aparicio who competed in the 4A Boys High School State Meet this weekend. Drew placed 4th in 100 free with an amazing time of 47.65, and 11th in the 200 free. He was also a member of the 400 free relay that placed 2nd and the Medley relay that took 1st and set a new D’Evelyn High School team record. Way to go!

June 30th Virtual Meet

We will have another virtual meet this Wednesday, June 30th from 6:45 to 9:45 am at our home pool. This meet is for all team members. Please arrive no later than 6:45 for warm-ups. The meet will begin at 7 am. Entries close at 8 am Monday (tomorrow) morning. This is sooner than originally posted, so if you miss the event sign-up window you may email Coach Meagan and she can enter your swimmer manually.

July 4th Weekend

There will be no swim meet the weekend of July 4th. Enjoy the holiday. God bless America!

Endurance Challenge/Team Breakfast

After the challenge we gather to share a pot-luck breakfast. Please watch for a sign-up for breakfast items. The schedule for the event is as follows:

9:30 – 9:45 am…..... clean up

End of Season Banquet – Sunday, August 15th 10 am – 12 pm Grant Park

Mark your calendars for our celebration of the 2021 season. We will gather for a pot-luck brunch and award & recognition ceremony. Let’s celebrate all our growth and accomplishments! All team members will be recognized.

Idea of the Week – Perseverance

The Mirriam-Webster dictionary defines perseverance as, “a continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition.” You persevere when you complete a hard practice set, even though you missed the interval every time. You persevere when you choose to swim a race in which you keep getting disqualified, or you finish a race after your goggles fall off and you miss the wall at the turn. Quitting is easy. Perseverance takes courage and a desire to overcome obstacles and failures, rather than allowing them to define you. Remember, you CAN do hard things and the sweetest victories are often those that are hardest won.

“I wanted to quit because it was hard. That wasn’t a good enough reason.” - unknown

Looking forward to another great week of swimming!
