Gator News #7 - 7/11/21

BC Meet

Well done this weekend at Bear Creek. I think many people were tired from the Endurance Challenge and Water World, but everyone gave it their best. The Gators won the meet, giving us a regular season record of 5-1.

Lost and Found

We have a large collection of goggles and a few miscellaneous items that have been left at the pool after practices. The items will be set on the picnic tables during practice this week. Please be sure to check for any items that may be yours.

Endurance Challenge / Swim Across America

The Endurance Challenge and Swim Across America events were a huge success. The Gators have raised over $3,500 for Children’s Hospital Colorado so far. What a wonderful gift you are giving children and families right here in our own community. The Swim Across America event will remain open until Monday, so there is still time to donate / fundraise. We will announce the Endurance Challenge winners and top fundraisers on Tuesday during practice.

League Championships

League prelims and finals will be held this Friday and Saturday, respectively, at our home pool. An email was sent our earlier this evening with details about the meet. Please be sure to choose your events before Tuesday at 10 am.

Buddies

We would like everyone to use the League meet this Friday as an opportunity to encourage and support their buddies. Please write a note of encouragement, make a poster, or do something fun and creative for your buddies this week. While the little gifts are great, you do not have to spend money to wish your buddy luck at League or congratulate them on a great season.

If you have been unable to connect with your buddy at all this season, please let Coach Meagan know via email.

State Meet

The State meet is scheduled for July 23 -25 at the Runway 35 pool in Stapleton. If you have qualified for the State meet please plan to be at practice July 19th – 22nd. Communication regarding the meet has been sparse, so we are still lacking details. We will share additional information as it becomes available.

Team Banquet

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Sunday, August 15th for our end of season banquet. Let’s celebrate all the hard work and great swimming with an awards ceremony and pot-luck brunch. Every team member will be recognized. A sign-up sheet for food items will be sent out closer to the event.

Practice July 26th – 30th

Due to the way the calendar fell this season, we have the pool for an additional week after competition is completed. We will offer swim practice the week of July 26th – 30th for any team member who would like to attend. We will combine workouts with some fun games and activities. If your swimmer(s) plan to attend that week, please RSVP via the link below. Please note: there will be practice for State qualifiers only July 19th – 22nd.

Idea of the Week – Character and Growth

Two things to remember about competition:

1) We always compete to win.

2) There are more important things than winning.

As coaches we want to see our athletes succeed, but we believe that there is more to success than just winning a race or a meet. Who you are as a person, your character, is far more important than any win or loss. The experiences you face through athletics give you opportunities to learn and grow. Skills and traits such as perseverance, the pursuit of excellence, teamwork, respect for others, and humility are carried into other aspects of your life. Win or lose, it is all an opportunity to emerge better and stronger than you were before.
