Gator Bytes 6/30/24

Hello Gator Families!

We had an incredible meet yesterday at home! We won our meet, beating Columbine Knolls and Bear Creek GVR:1237.5/CK:722.5/BC:873. The Gators are currently undefeated for the season. Many of our 12 and under swimmers earned times that qualify for the Gold League Championship meet! Thank you so much to all of you who volunteered, we cannot run a meet like that without you.

Our next meet is this Saturday, July 6th. We will be swimming a dual meet at Columbine Knolls. The meet sign up is open, please make sure you submit the races your swimmer will be competing in by 7 am on Thursday in order to participate. This is the last chance to swim any new events. At League, you can only participate in events you have already swam. If your child is trying for Iron Man, this is their last opportunity to complete those events as well.

This week, our practice schedule is a little different because of the 4th of July holiday. We will not have practice on the 4th for any groups. We hope everyone enjoys this day! On the 5th, we will have a game day. Senior and Silver groups will meet from 8-9, and Green and Purple will meet from 9-9:45.

Our team day at Water World is next Monday, July 8th. Please note that it is Monday, not Tuesday, as I mistakenly said in my last email. There will not be practice that morning for our Green or Purple groups, Senior and Silver will practice at their normal time. Our team will use the large pavilion near the wave pool as home base. However, if you would like to spend the day with teammates, you should plan on coordinating where you will meet, as we will not have a specific meeting time for everyone to gather.

Water World tickets can be purchased through our Calypso Club membership, which means you can get discounted tickets for your family anytime this summer. You can find this information under the "Resources" tab on our website. You can order and use these any time on your own and on the team day.

Swim Across America: We had an incredible turnout for our Swim Across America Endurance Challenge! The donations have now closed and our team raised over $2,500 for cancer research at Children's Hospital Colorado. What an amazing gift you all are giving to others in our community. Well done team. Prizes for endurance challenge winners and top fundraisers will be announced on Monday. Great Job Gators! Thank you to all of you who brought food to feed our team, it was a wonderful buffet!

Our League Meet is coming up in two weeks! This year it will be run differently than it has in the past. Friday morning will be the Silver League, held at Bear Creek Swim Club. Saturday morning will be the Gold League, held at Governor's Ranch. In order to swim in the Gold League meet, your child has to have earned a qualifying time in that event. You can find all of these times posted on our website on the main page. We will also work to get the lists of swimmers who have qualified out this week in case your child is close and wants to make a final try this weekend. Watch for an email with detailed information on these Championship meets.

Coaches Corner:
A phrase that the coaching staff uses with each other often is "Look for the work." It means that we try to be aware of what needs to be done and how we can help. Keeping this phrase in mind helps us work together to support our team and makes our jobs flow better. When each of us is striving to see what needs to be taken care of, the work becomes easier and doesn't tend to fall on just one person. I think that this can apply to more than just work. We can look for the good to help us develop the habit of positive thinking. We can look for the need to help us see where we can serve others. Imagine what our homes and jobs might look like if everyone "looked for the work," rather that waiting to be told or asked to do something. I think there are many people, both athletes and parents, on our team who always try to "look for the work." They jump in and fill volunteer shifts (often when they have already done 6 or 7), they help put in lane ropes at practice, they stay to help clean up, or offer to take someone home who doesn't have a ride. I love that our team makes this a habit. It is part of what makes the Gators such a great team. When we all "look for the work" it ceases to be work and become a joy to be together. - Coach Meagan
